Pantanal fire hits 2,430 outbreaks in October, worst month since 2002

Thousands of yellow dots appear on the map of the Burned System of the National Institute for Special Research. From November 1st to Thursday (07), 912 outbreaks were detected in the Pantanal. In the year, between January 1 and November 6, there were 9,394 outbreaks of fire in the biome, the worst series since 2007, when satellites detected 9,869 outbreaks in the same period.

The lack of control of the fires has already made the governor of Mato Grosso do Sul, state that owns most of the Pantanal biome, decreed in September an emergency situation in municipalities affected by the fires.

According to the Fire Department, the main current focus of fires is located between the municipalities of Miranda and Corumbá.
