Fronteira and Novicel are two factories located in the Amazonas state. Together the two factories used to produce 17 million pieces for the local civil construction market, relying on burning firewood sourced from deforestation of the Amazon biome.
Seeking to modernize its processes and promote sustainable development in the region, as of 2011, the company owners replaced the use of non-renewable fuel (native wood), which was used to fuel the kilns, with renewable biomasses sourced from local agribusinesses surplus.
This initiative allowed the factories to reduce their GEEs and reduce their adverse effects on deforestation of the Amazon biome and its unparalleled biodiversity.
Choosing sustainability enabled the ceramics to participate in the international carbon market. The sale of credits is being reinvested into the factory and into social benefits for the local community.Download PDF
