Sustainable Carbon is differentiated by the fact we use two standards in all of our projects.
Sustainable Carbon relies on the Voluntary Carbon Standard (VCS) 2007.1 to develop the carbon aspect of its projects. The VCS was developed by the Voluntary Carbon Standard Association, an organization that develops methodologies used to quantify GHG emission reductions per project type. The VCS is the only voluntary carbon-accounting standard that was designed to exacting International Standard Organization (ISO) principles. It is the most widely used and most trusted carbon-accounting standard in the voluntary market. Its use ensures the environmental integrity of the credits produced.
To bring the social, extra environmental and economic benefits to the communities where we develop projects, Sustainable Carbon uses the SOCIALCARBON® Standard. The Standard was developed by the Instituto Ecológica, a Brazilian non-governmental organization that has several research centers focused on sustainable development, climate change mitigation and biodiversity preservation. To date, Sustainable Carbon is the largest developer of SOCIALCARBON® projects. The Standard:
Counts on the active participation of our local partners to transparently assess our projects' lifelong sustainability.
Is applied to ensure our projects demonstrate continual improvement on six resources: social, human, financial, natural, technology and carbon.
